Report: Raleigh one of fastest growing cities in the country

Sep 10, 2014

Raleigh Area FamiliesNo wonder Raleigh area home sales appear to have picked up significantly in the last couple of months!

According to a recent article I was reading, Raleigh and Charlotte both top a recent UN list of fastest growing large cities in the country!

This is an accolade we’re certainly proud of as Raleigh area residents!

More on the Recent UN Study

According to city population projects from the United Nations, Raleigh is expected to grow significantly between 2010 and 2030.

The United Nations offers these estimates for cities around the globe. In its projections, Raleigh is expected to increase by about 71 percent from 2010 to 2030.

The next US city to rank in terms of high population growth is Austin, which is expected to grow by 58 percent in that same period.

Other US cities that stood out among cities with populations of 500,000 or more were:

  • Las Vegas
  • McAllen, TX
  • Knoxville
  • Columbia SC
  • Ogden-Layton, Utah
  • Charleston, SC
  • And others!

As the UN notes, this high population growth in two of North Carolina’s cities suggest there may be a shift in which Charlotte and Raleigh become the new Southeast headquarters. Wouldn’t that be interesting – our city more prominent than Atlanta!
